VIRGIN Trains will not be running any services to or from the North-East today due to industrial action.

The Virgin Cross Country service will run only between Bristol and Sheffield.

A Virgin spokesman said: "Darlington and the rest of the North-East will not see any of our services tomorrow.

"The trains are only travelling north as far as Sheffield. There are other services and, by changing, it is possible people can make their journeys.

"We just haven't got the resources to run any more or any further."

About 3,000 members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union will stage the strike, the first of three 24-hour walkouts in a long-running dispute over their safety role.
