In the Kenny Ball Cup, Darlington Croft did the first division proud by defeating premier side Lord Seaham 1-0 at home. The Croft opened in fine style, taking the lead after ten minutes when John Dee slotted home a pass from Stephen Craggs but wasted chances by both sides saw the first half end 1-0. The restart saw the game swinging from end to end and keeper Mike Nelson made several great saves to deny the visitors scoring. Jamie Leafe had a tremendous game in midfield for the Croft.

Billingham Wanderers won 4-2 at home to Division Two side Wynyard Veterans. The Vets shocked the home side by taking the lead through Mo Najah but Keith Corner levelled when he put away a cross from Bob Hadfield and the first period ended 1-1. After the restart Corner headed home a cross from Eric Barrett to put the home side 2-1 ahead and not long after Micky Taylor made it 3-1. The Vets rallied, coming back strongly and Jackie Riley scored to make it 3-2. The Vets now pushed forward for the equaliser but Billingham were quite content to contain any attack and use the long ball for breakaways. This move paid off when Hadfield went solo, five minutes from time and scored to settle the issue 4-2. Colin Steer was outstanding for Billingham.

In Division One, Langley Park Rams Head are now in deep trouble as they lost 4-0 away to Wardley Green, with only two games left to play. The game was virtually over by half-time as Wardley were 3-0 up, courtesy of goals from Robson, Morrell and Duggan and the Rams just did not have sufficient fire power to save the game. Tony Joyce scored after the restart to make it 4-0 and add to the Ram's woes. Newton Aycliffe who looked good for promotion earlier in the season, fell away and lost their rhythm when there was a spate of postponed games but they turned in a good performance to draw 0-0 away to fourth-placed Wearmouth in a hard fought defensive battle in which very few scoring chances were created by both sides.

In Division Two, Barnard Castle Glaxo suffered a set back to their promotion hopes by losing 3-0 away to Red House who were fighting to avoid relegation.

It was a very close first half which ended in Red House leading 1-0. The Castle pushed all forward after the restart and paid the price being twice caught out with breakaways and the match ended 3-0 to Red House, scorers were Bruce Stephenson and a brace from Stoker.

In Division Three, Billingham Town kept on target. They won 5-0 at home to Steels FC and stay in third spot. They were always in command and never looked like losing. Leading 2-0 at the break, they scored three further goals after the restart to end as 5-0 easy winners. Hero of the game was Tony Screen who notched a hat-trick along with Andy Ladan and Dave Long one a piece.

Darlington Railway turned in a fine performance to win 3-0 against Roker Queen Vic. McMester scored a brace and Mark Lawrence one.

Durham C Strollers have gone off the boil. They lost 5-0 at home to the Marsden Inn. In Division Four, new comers to the league Crook Town have slowly but surely welded themselves into a strong, well-organised side and have a very definite chance of promotion as three sides go up. They really pulled out all the stops to win 6-0 away to Houghton Mill Inn who have recently been in the running as well. The Leaders, Oddies, look odds on favourite and it looks like any two from four to accompany them. Hedworthfield, Houghton Swifts, Toll Bar and Crook Town. It all depends on who falters and who can take advantage of it, in the final run in as 28 matches have to be played and the midweek games can be the ones which count.
