A church is giving visitors the chance to pit themselves against a moral maze.
An interactive labyrinth laid out on the floor of All Saints' Parish Church, in Eaglescliffe, aims to take visitors on a spiritual and cultural journey.
Installed as part of the church's centenary celebrations, the labyrinth was first unveiled at St Paul's Cathedral, London, in March 2000.
While walking the labyrinth, people are guided by a series of music tracks and spoken meditations played on a personal CD player.
The experience combines the ancient practice of labyrinth walking with contemporary popular culture.
Bob Cockcroft, a spokesman for the church, said: "It's painted out on a huge canvas which is laid out on the church floor. People then walk a certain route through the labyrinth, listening to a CD that dispenses the Christian message at the same time.
"It is basically the idea of ancient labyrinths, which used to be laid out in mosaic form, brought up to date."
The labyrinth is open Tuesday and Wednesday, 10am to 9pm, Thursday, 10am to 5pm, and on Friday from 10am to noon.
