THE risk of additional traffic was not enough to persuade planners to reject a plan for a new warehouse in Richmond.
Residents in Quarry Road claim they already have to endure vehicles which ignore access-only signs and use the residential street to reach the Gallowfields industrial estate.
They were worried that wholesaler Peacock's application to relocate to a bigger unit would exacerbate the problem and appealed to Richmondshire District Council to stall any further development on the estate until it has its own dedicated access road.
The environment committee decided it was for the police to enforce the access-only restrictions in Quarry Road and they could not be used as the basis for blocking Peacock's expansion plans.
The meeting on Tuesday also agreed more research should be done into the possibility of building a new road to the estate.
