A FAMILY-RUN fish and chip shop celebrated a double award yesterday - presented to them by regular customer Sir Jimmy Savile.

The television star, well known for his Jim'll Fix It show, handed over the Sea Fish Fryers award to siblings Andrea Sunley and David Almond.

Both their White Horse Cafe fish and chip take away and restaurant in Thirsk and Northallerton received the quality award for the high standards they reached during inspection.

Mr Almond said the wonderful achievement was down to the hard work and dedication of his staff.

"It is a great honour to be awarded this for both shops. We constantly try to improve the business to offer the best food and service that we can," he said.

"Jimmy Savile has been coming to the restaurant in Thirsk for years and he says we serve the best fish and chips he has tasted - so we have his seal of approval too."

Eleanor Nicholls, Sea Fish quality assurance advisor, inspected the two shops and made checks on almost 200 points. She said: "White Horse Cafe has certainly demonstrated very high standards and of course good fish and chips."
