Spennymoor kept up the pressure on the leaders in the UniBond First Division with a 2-0 home win over Farsley Celtic.

There wasn't much in the way of entertainment, but Moors will be happy with a victory which extends their unbeaten run to seven matches.

Assistant manager Jason Ainsley said: "Again, it wasn't a very good performance, but it's the result that matters."

Moors are still in fourth place, four points behind second place with games in hand, and they could even strengthen their title chances if they can win at leaders Alfreton on Tuesday night.

"If we can win there, it will be a massive result for us."

Moors took the lead after just nine minutes when Nicky Mohan headed in a Stuart Brightwell free-kick, then Steve Preen crossed from the right for Danny Brunskill to score from six yards.

There were very few chances after that, although Moors had a penalty claim turned down. Mohan almost added a third in the second half. Bishop Auckland let three points slip away in a 2-2 draw at Workington, after leading 2-0 at one stage.

They took the lead after just seven minutes, when Stuart Irvine scored from a Brian Ross free-kick, and just before half-time they went 2-0 up when Neil Maddison created a chance for Micky Taylor to score.

But Craig Johnston pulled one back with a header after 75 minutes, and Stuart Moffat equalised in a scramble two minutes from the end.

Bishops manager Brian Honour said: "We're disappointed with a draw because of the way we've been playing recently."

Bishops are at home to Rossendale on Wednesday night.

In the Premier Division Gateshead are facing a relegation play-off after they lost 3-2 at home to Runcorn.

They led 1-0 at one stage, but Runcorn scored three times in the space of ten minutes at the start of the second half.

Whitby Town are still on course for a top-eight finish after they won 1-0 at Gainsborough thanks to a last-minute goal by Paul Pettinger.

Blyth, who might also be on a relegation play-off, drew 1-1 at home to Marine, Richard Forster scoring their equaliser late in the game.
