THE Chinese ambassador has been presented with a gift by a primary school youngster from Norton.
Emily Li, a year six pupil at Norton Primary School, entered a literacy competition being run by Northumbrian Water and was named as one of the winners.
She, along with three other pupils from the school, has yet to be presented with her prize, but the judges were so impressed with Emily's poem, and so admired the way she had written it in English and then copied it in Chinese, they invited her to meet the ambassador, His Excellency Zha Peixin, in Newcastle.
Emily presented him with a framed copy of her poem.
Michael Reeves, headteacher at the school, said: "We are very proud of Emily and absolutely delighted she has done so well."
