BARTON and Scorton top the priority list for 20mph speed limits, councillors have agreed.

North Yorkshire County Council has agreed to spend £23,000 in Barton and £2,000 in Scorton's Glebe Meadows. Also being considered for 20mph zones are areas in Middleham, Catterick Village, Colburn, Croft, Reeth, Redmire, Marske, Healaugh and Fremington.

COMPOUND BURGLED: Police are hoping the public may be able to help trace intruders who escaped with thousands of pounds worth of equipment from a works compound in Richmond. The thieves forced padlocks to get on to the site on the Gallowfields industrial estate sometime between Friday night and Monday morning and must have used a van or lorry. Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to call Richmond CID or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

CATHEDRAL SESSIONS: Ripon Cathedral's education centre is waiting to hear from schools across the county interested in taking part in this year's Saints and Citizens project. The event includes interactive work on global citizenship and law and order, including games, drama and a treasure hunt. There is also an opportunity for Key Stage Two children to meet people who work in the health, law and voluntary sectors. The sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 19.
