A FUNDRAISING event has helped two Ferryhill children improve their quality of life at school.

Ferryhill Rosebank Special School applied for a grant from Just for Kids, Metro Radio and Magic 1152's children's charity campaign, to help buy specialist chairs for two of its pupils.

The seating will help them sit upright, supported and comfortable, which will enable them to participate more easily in classroom activities and interact with their friends.

The school, which is for children with severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties, was awarded £1,775.

The children to benefit from the new chairs are six-year-old Bradley Johnson, from Ferryhill, and Rachael Dodd, 10, from Shildon. Both have profound and multiple learning difficulties.

One of the events held by Metro Radio and Magic 1152 to raise money for the charity was Get Stripped Friday, which encouraged people to go to work or school in the colours of their favourite team.

The next event, for which participants pay £1 to take part in, will be held on Friday, April 25, before the derby match between Newcastle and Sunderland football clubs.

Headteacher Susanne Stubbs said: "These chairs will make a huge difference to the children. They will enhance the quality of their life within school and will give them easier access to the curriculum.

"We would like to say a big thank-you to Just for Kids and all those who helped raise the money through Get Stripped Friday, and would encourage everyone to support this year's event."
