RADIO presenter Paddy MacDee has become patron to the Tiny Lives Fund, which provides essentials for premature babies.
Paddy, who visited the special care baby unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, to see the work of the Tiny Lives Fund, decided to become a become a patron of the charity alongside Peter and Sandra Beardsley.
He said: "As a father, I could not imagine what the parents must feel, having to see their baby extremely ill and requiring intensive care.
"On seeing these tiny babies, I felt determined to help raise funds to enable the babies to have the very best possible chance of recovery."
The Tiny Lives Fund hopes to raise more than £100,000 this year to help more babies and their families.
The Tiny Lives Fund, which is managed by the Community Foundation, helps provide additional equipment, extra support for the families of babies under their care, and additional funding for training and research.
Fundraiser Andrea Atkinson said: "It is fantastic that Paddy, Peter and Sandra are patrons of the Tiny Lives Fund."
The fund was set up with the aim of providing the long-term salary of a researcher to extend the services of the special care baby unit.
