Missing boy was crushed

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy found dead in the yard of an industrial firm was crushed by a one-and-a-half tonne bag. Humberside Police said they were treating the death of Sam Fewster as an accident and were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident. It is believed the bag, which was being stored at Scunthorpe Forwarding, contained grit or fertiliser. Sam went missing from home on Sunday, sparking a huge police search which ended on Monday night when his body was found.

TRAIN PAIN: Thousands of rail commuters suffered travel misery yesterday after Easter signalling work overran at London's Paddington station. Although the station reopened at 2pm, there was further disruption to evening rush-hour travellers, with train companies unable to run full services.

BOMB VICTIMS: Five civilians were killed and 12 injured yesterday when a bomb detonated under their vehicle in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Police said the device planted on a dirt road, about 37 miles south of Srinagar, was intended to target security forces.

'JOKE' VOTE: International observers said yesterday that stolen ballot boxes and fudged tallies could compromise Nigerians' confidence in presidential elections held over the weekend. DEATH PROBE: Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman whose body was found in a pub. The woman, believed to be in her early 30s, was discovered at the Black Cat Inn in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, at 7.25pm, on Monday.

SEAL APPROVAL: A seal that has evaded capture from a loch will be allowed to remain for another week. The two-year-old grey seal, nicknamed Andre by locals, has been the centre of two failed rescue attempts in Loch Lomond, near Glasgow, after enraging fishermen by dining on the loch's freshwater salmon.

COACH CRASH: More than 40 French tourists escaped yesterday when their coach crashed into a church. The accident happened at 7.20am in the Scottish Borders village of West Linton.

SUICIDE MYSTERY: A man due to stand trial for helping another man commit suicide was found dead yesterday after apparently taking his own life. Louis Gillies, 36, was accused of assisting Michael Gooden to kill himself at Beachy Head cliffs near Eastbourne, a notorious suicide spot.

SIGHT BOOST: About 1,000 people a year could be prevented from going blind or having their sight impaired thanks to a £27m investment. Health Minister David Lammy has announced funding over the next three years to pay for digital cameras which record a precise image of the eye.
