POLICE are seeking a cyclist who knocked down an elderly man after an incident involving his bike in Great Ayton.

The visitor was left bruised and shocked by the accident on April 8.

Trouble arose as a woman in a wheelchair was being pushed by her partner near the disabled toilets in Park Rise.

They accidentally bumped a cycle which was standing there and knocked it over.

The owner of the bike shouted at the couple and punched the 69-year-old man in the head, knocking him down.

The man is white, aged about 40, and was wearing yellow and black cycling helmet, cycling shorts and cycling jersey, with the words Cleveland Wheelers written on it.

Inquiries at the club have so far been unsuccessful.

Learning centre

THE first sod was cut yesterday on a £110,000 learning resource centre in Thirsk. The new building is expected to be completed by the autumn when a variety of courses will be available.

Health meeting

MEMBERS of the public are invited to the Tees and North-East Yorkshire NHS Trust's monthly board meeting on Wednesday.

The Trust provides mental health services for the people of Stockton, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, Whitby, Scarborough, Ryedale, South Easington and Hartlepool.

The meeting is at Flatts Lane Centre, Normanby, at 2pm.
