SCHOOLS and youth organisations across North Yorkshire will continue to run the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in the wake of the county council winning a royal seal of approval.
The authority's education director, Cynthia Welbourn, was presented with a new operating licence by Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme director, Vice-Admiral Michael Gretton, at a ceremony at County Hall.
"I'm proud North Yorkshire's education service is the most successful Duke of Edinburgh Award in the North-East," said Miss Welbourn.
"The credit goes to the individual unit leaders and their support helpers in school and youth organisations right across the county."
Vice-Admiral Gretton said: "North Yorkshire is an outstanding example of how combined effort and enthusiasm can make a significant contribution to the lives of many young people."
There are now almost 80 schools and youth organisations involved in running the awards in North Yorkshire.
