BUSINESS and technology consultants High-Point Rendel have been appointed to carry out a geotechnical appraisal report on one of North Yorkshire's landmark buildings.

Scarborough Borough Council is carrying out a feasibility study on the possible redevelopment or refurbishment of the Spa, the town's prime conference and theatre complex.

The High-Point Rendel team has been asked to make recommendations on a number of options based on retaining or modifying the facility and expects to complete its report by the end of May.

It is the latest in a series of geotechnical and civil engineering commissions in the Scarborough area in which the company has been involved.

They have included the design and supervision of the continuing £34m coastal defence scheme in Scarborough; and coastal monitoring and studies at Runswick Bay, Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes, followed by major schemes at these locations.
