County Super League

Crook B shot to the top of the table after they only dropped four points on their visit to Bishop Auckland. The Bishops only managed one point each from Kevin Watson, David Jacomb, Ron Wright and Malcolm Howard. Crook's table topping performance was brought about with two wins each from Darren Tinkler, Johnny Mason, Les Scott and Gavin Witton, whilst Gerald Parkin and Cliffy Owens added one each. This win takes Crook B three points clear at the top.

Spennymoor moved into second place when they notched their third consecutive double figure score when they only dropped two points at Durham A. Paul Biddle proved the star for the Moors when he won his two points with clearances from the break in both. He was joined as a two-point winner by Andrew Mole, Dave Bromley, Steve Hunter and Ronnie McAloon, whilst Shaun Archer and Richard Turner added one each. Durham A had one win each from Helen Littlewood and Dave Ferguson.

Horden came through their home match against Shildon with a four-point victory. John Bourne and Steve Nixon took two points each for Horden with Shaun Williams, Tommy Forster, Paul Hickman, Gerald Evans and Steve Wylie adding one each. Shildon had two points from Paul Willey and Peter Coates with Rance Richardson scoring the other.

Ferryhill went down to their second consecutive defeat when they had to change their home venue to Spennymoor Weardale to allow the visiting Durham lady, Helen Sharpe to play, as she was banned from playing in Ferryhil Club. Ferryhill had points from Steve Wray, Steve Webster, Simon Corbirdge, Terry Wray and Charlie Dawbney, whilst Durham B went to victory with two wins each from Trevor Walton and Michael Rhodes, with David Hodgson, Gary Carr, Andy Seal, Helen Sharpe and Steve Thompson adding one each.

Tow Law edged through to their second win of the season with a two points home success over Newton Aycliffe. The Lawyers had two points from David Craggs, Shaun Umpelby and Tommy Sloan, with John Beveridge and Lee Cullinan adding one each. Newton Aycliffe replied with two points from Ritchie Bellwood and George Dawes, whilst Paul Wade and Ross Killip added one each.

Durham Ranking Tournament

The Easter Sunday tournament was thrown wide open as a number of key players were away at a Nation Pool event. The missing players were Michael Rhodes, Dave Hodgson, Chris Bowran, Steve Thompson and Lee Holdsworth and so Dave Harrop of Consett took full advantage by grabbing vital ranking and merit points by beating Trevor Walton 5-1 in the final to take the £60 prize with Walton collecting half that amount.

In the semi-finals Harrop beat Rob Hogarth 4-1, whilst Walton beat Andy Seal 4-3. The beaten semi-finalists received £15 each.

Last 16 results: Steve Webb lost to Dave Harrop 3-0; Colin Bayles beat John Mayman 3-1; Alan Hogarth lost to Colin Hutchinson 3-0; David Castledene lost to Rob Hogarth 3-2; Darren Grainger lost to Trevor Walton 3-1; David bridge beat Ian Laycock 3-2; Andy Seal beat Nick Veuger 3-2; Graham Comerford beat Andy Mole 3-0.

In the quarter-finals Dave Harrop beat Colin Bayles 4-1; Colin Hutchinson lost to Rob Hogarth 4-0; Trevor Walton beat David Bridge 4-0; Andy Seal beat Graham Comerford 4-3.

In the Plate, for players beaten in the First Round, Steve Jones beat Richard Turner to take the £10 prize whilst the runner-up won £8. In the semi-finals Turner beat Adrian Kavanagh, whilst Jones beat Kevin Rainbow. The next Ranking Tournament will again be held at Durham Snooker Club on Sunday, May 25, when new players are welcome to register at noon.

Durham and District League

The final of the League Knockout Cup will be between Durham Snooker Club, after they won their semi-final at Sacriston Daisy Hill by seven frames to three, and Ushaw Moor Catholic Club, who beat the visiting Framwellgate Moor Marquis of Gramby by the same score.
