PLANS to convert a shop in Darlington to two residential flats has met with objections from neighbours.
The shop unit opposite the Highland Laddie pub, in Haughton Green, was last used as a hat and dress hire shop.
Planning permission is now being sought to convert it into two one-bedroom flats, with the shop windows being replaced and extensions added.
But residents have objected to the proposaL, arguing that the loss of the shop will affect the commercial life of the village and there will be disturbance caused during the building process.
Darlington Borough Council planning officials believe that Haughton has enough shops, with a general store and post office, pubs, a club, hairdresser and butchers shop, and the loss of the unit will not deprive the local community.
They have recommended that councillors approve the plan when they meet tomorrow.
