Darlington Association on Disability is holding awareness days to promote disability issues and equality.

The organisation, based in Horsemarket, is staging the Breaking Through Barriers event as part of the European Year of Disabled People.

Tomorrow, an information day with presentations, workshops and exhibitions will be held from 10am to 3.30pm.

Disability Question Time will be held on Friday, with presentations by Darlington Association on Disability from 10am to 12.30pm.

Between 1.30pm and 3pm a panel of representatives from the organisation, the local authority and outside agencies will be answering questions from the public.

The events will be held at Dimensions, West Lodge, West Crescent, Darlington.

Gordon Pybus, chairman of Darlington Association on Disability, said: "I hope the public will come along to these events. The days are not just for disabled people and carers.

"Often people would not intentionally discriminate against disabled people, unfortunately some do so due to lack of understanding.

"This is a great opportunity for the public, employers, services providers etc, to gain a better understanding."
