THE public will soon have chance to comment on the latest version of a document that sets planning guidelines for the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Publication of the second deposit local plan was approved by park authority members last week and will be published in early summer for a six-week consultation. The document is due to be adopted next year. Changes include a proposed policy allowing farm buildings to be used as local housing for rent and the possibility of up to 40 additional settlements being included as areas where barn will be allowed to be converted into houses.

MUSIC DATE: Northallerton Silver band will hold a concert in the town hall on Saturday, May 10, in aid of Hospice Homecare and the band. Tickets are free but a collection will be taken during the performance.

SPA HISTORY: Harrogate Civic Society has proposed creating a fountain or water feature in the town centre to mark Harrogate's history as a major European spa. Society members are being asked for their views.

ANTIQUES FAIR: An antiques and collectors fair will be held in Danby Village Hall on the North York Moors, from 10am to 4pm on Monday. The 30p admission charge will be given to local charities. Refreshments and parking will be available.

HOMES APPROVED: Hambleton district councillors have approved a plan to build ten sheltered bungalows at Sowerby, Thirsk, for the Abbeyfield Society.

RAIL MEETING: The annual meeting of the Wensleydale Railway Association's Northallerton branch will be held at the RAFA club on Thursday, May 8, at 7.30pm.

STREET CASH: A street collection in Bedale in aid of the Northallerton and Dales branch of the Samaritans raised more than £320.
