League Cup semi-finals: Gt Ayton v Lingdale Tavern

Ayton had the better of the play in the early stages of the game but it was Lingdale who took the lead on 15 minutes. With Ayton playing possession football, a back pass by Scott put Readman, in the Ayton goal, under pressure with Breckon closing in, the ball bounced over the keeper's foot and found it's way into the goal. Then a free-kick was taken quickly by the experienced Breckon to catch the Ayton defence flat footed, giving Lingdale a two-goal advantage at the break. With the wind at their backs in the second half, Ayton looked for an early reply to get back in the game, however once again Lingdale scored, having made a good save at the feet of Breckon, Readman saw the loose ball slotted home by Darcy, seeming to put the game out of Ayton's reach. With Hunton chasing the ball down field, he managed to cross for Milburn to head home, giving Ayton a slim chance but within minutes Lingdale had scored again when Breckon finished off a good move. In a last ditch effort Ayton pressed forward and were rewarded with a goal from Scott but Lingdale held on to take their place in the final.

Staithes Ath v Boosbeck Utd

Staithes took an early lead when a clearance by the Boosbeck defence hit an advancing Beddingfield and bounced beyond Myers into the net. But Boosbeck were back on level terms when, after some strong running down the left, Craig Winter who rose above the Staithes defence to head past the keeper. After a move involving Johnson and Dean Winter, Craig winter almost netted his second but his shot went just wide. Staithes again took the lead through Beddingfield following some hesitant Boosbeck defensive work. Once again within minutes Boosbeck levelled, Dean Winter scoring from just inside the area. The second half was always going to be strongly contested with both teams trying to get the vital goal. Staithes were awarded a penalty for a dubious challenge in the box and Crossman gave Myers no chance. Boosbeck pressed forward, with Crawford and Parry getting on top in the midfield battle but some sterling defence work by Libby and Best kept the Boosbeck forwards at bay. In their next surge forwad Boosbeck were awarded a penalty for a hand ball, Crawford stepped up to equalise once again. The score remained level until the whistle taking the match into extra time. Both sessions of extra time saw plenty of action but no-one was able to break the deadlock and it took a great penalty shoot out for Staithes to emerge the winners. They now face Lingdale Tavern in the final at the Turnbull Ground Whitby on Friday 25.

Brotton WMC v Whitby Fishermen

The game started with both teams attempting to play attacking football on a rock hard pitch, Brotton creating the better chances early on. In the 15th minute a Steve McMillan free kick hit the wall, the ball fell to his brother Ross who shot into the bottom corner of the net. This settled Brotton and they took command of the game and fifteen minutes later they had doubled their lead with a good goal from Scott. Shortly into the second half Solomon made it 3 - 0 and with Brotton now totally on top of the game Walker in the Whitby goal was forced to make some excellent saves to keep the score down, however he could do nothing when a corner came over to the back post and Ross McMilllan rose above everyone to head home. Whitby never stopped trying to attack but the Brotton defence was able to cope. Late substitute, Butler took the score to 5 - 0 when his first shot rebounded back and he finished with a left foot shot into the bottom corner of the net. Whitby's continued battling finally paid off. Wood scoring a consolation goal with only 3 minutes left.

Lingdale Utd v Grosmont

Lingdale scored their first goal in the opening minutes of the game. While the Grosmont defence argued about where a free kick should be taken Evans past the ball to Hololob who gave the Grosmont keeper no chance with a low drive. Grosmont had a good chance to equalise in the 25th minute but Gibson in the Lingdale goal pulled off a brave save. A mistake in the Grosmont defence led to Lingdale's second once again through Hololob, this time a close range shot. The score remained at 2 - 0 at the break. The first 25 minutes of the 2nd half was very scrappy with no chances being created by either side. In the 75th minute keeper Gibson, kicked the ball deep into the Grosmint half and Hololob got himself between 2 defenders and chipped the advancing keeper to complete his hat trick. With ten minutes remaining Grosmont pulled a goal back through Duck and went on to put heavy pressure on the Lingdale defence but they managed to hold on to take the points.
