Although it appears that Steels Social will win the Premier Division this season and runners-up spot is still undecided and any of three clubs, Owton Manor, Killingworth Arms and Billingham CGS could fill it.

Billingham CGS are there with an excellent chance. They won 6-1 at home to the already relegated Sunderland Catholic who have only lasted one season after being promoted. Billingham were always in control and led 2-0 at the interval courtesy of goals from Gary Bell and Kevin Smith. The restart saw Billingham dominating the game and a brace from both Taylor and Bob Hatfield put the hosts 6-0 up before Steve Hope scored for Catholic. Powell had an outstanding game.

In Division One Sedgefield United won 4-1 away to the Willow Pond to ease away from the relegation zone. The Willow Pond scored first through Reuben Gibson, but Sedgefield came back strongly and eventually gained control of the match, Carruthers notced a brace and McCann and Barber scored one a piece to run out comfortable 4-0 winners. John Alderton turned in a star-studded game.

Relegation has now been resolved, the Willow Pond, Barnes Hotel and Langley Park Rams Head being the unfortunate sides.

In Division Two the champions are Touchdown Hotel, Hartlepool and the other two promoted sides are Hartlepool Catholic Club and Glaxo but who will finish in second spot has still to be decided.

Glaxo turned in a great performance to win 2-0 away to British Telecom who are the time were promotion contenders. The Castle opened in fine style and took the lead when Alan Gates headed home a cross from Ronnie Sexton and not long after scored again with a piledriver from the edge of the box. Close on the interval the Castle were awarded a spot kick, Alan Briggs took it, but somehow stubbed his toe in the ground and the ball trickled slowly towards the keeper who booted it clear upfield. The restart saw Castle intent on what we have we hold and it was merely a question of playing for time rather than scoring goals.

In Division Tthree it looks as if the promotion race is between three contenders, Hylton Castle, Wynyard Vets and Billingham with fourth placed Whitley Bay poised to pounce if any of these three clubs slip up. The long awaited meeting between Billingham Town and Hylton Castle ended in a goalless draw, it being more of a defensive battle and very few scoring chances were created by either side as neither end were prepared to take risks for fear of losing the match.

Wynyard Vets lost 2-0 away to Roker Queen Vic who are fighting to avoid relegation. It was end-to-end football with very little between the two sides until just on half time. Ian Lawrence scored for the home side. The restart saw Wynyard pressing forward for the equaliser and Queen Vic holding firm and using the long ball out of defence which paid off when Bob Lye booted clear to score and settle the issue 2-0 in Queen Vic's favour.

West Cornforth drew 3-3 away to Steels FC. Faulty back passes and defensive errors allowed Cornforth to go into a 3-0 lead, but they relaxed and just on the interval Joe Dagg pulled one back for the hosts. The restart saw Steels on the attack and Cornforth struggling to regain their rhythm. Goals from Ken Wilkinson and John Smith levelled the scores and for the brilliance of Cornforth's keeper Steels would have won the match.

In Division Four Thornley Celtic were in devastating form. They won 7-0 at home to the Sportsmans Arms. The first half was fairly even with Thornley just having the edge to lead 2-0. The restart saw Sportsmans fall away badly and let the hosts score five further goals to win quite easily in the end. Scorers were man of the match Summerson who got four goals, Stokesley, Manson and Gary Hammond.
