Spennymoor United are hoping for a big crowd to see them clinch promotion against Witton Albion tomorrow.

Moors go into the game in second place, two points ahead of Radcliffe Borough, following their win at Stocksbridge last night night. They need to win, because a draw might not be enough, if Radcliffe win their game against North Ferriby.

Secretary Brian Boughen said: "Hopefully we can kill the game off as soon as possible. We need a big crowd to come along and get behind us."

Moors finished Stocksbridge off in the first half hour. Steve Preen scored from a Neal Bishop pass after eight minutes, then Danny Brunskill crossed for Stuart Brightwell to head the second.

And the game was all but over after 28 minutes when Brunskill scored from an acute angle. Moors saved their energy, and , despite playing five games in 12 days, coasted through the second half.

Moors were hoping to have clinched promotion by now, but

lost an exciting but sometimes bad tempered local derby 3-2 at Bishop Auckland on Monday. Turn to Page 10 for report and pictures.

But Bishops couldn't follow up that performance and only drew 1-1 with Farsley Celtic on Wednesday night. Dean Smithard scored for Farsley, but Steve West levelled with a header from a Stuart Irvine corner near the end.

Gateshead have been told they must play their first play-off game away from home, although they have launched an appeal against the decision. Gateshead believed because they staged the home leg of the League cup final at their temporary South Shields base, they would be able to play their play off games there - but the league has ruled that they must travel to the fifth-placed club in the First Division.

The third-placed club in the First Division are still at home to the fourth-placed club, both games are due to be played on Tuesday April 29, with the final to be played on Saturday, May 3.
