ACCLAIMED director Sir Peter Hall and his son Edward are heading to the region with their latest productions.

Sir Peter will direct Mrs Warren's Profession, by Bernard Shaw, at Newcastle's Theatre Royal, from Tuesday, July 8.

He will be preceded by Edward, whose all-male, award-winning Ensemble Company will appear at the theatre from Tuesday to Saturday, May 27 to 31. It will perform its new production of Shakespeare's comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Theatre Royal general manager Peter Sarah said: "I'm a huge fan of all Edward Hall's work. He has established himself as one of the finest directors of Shakespeare in the country.

"I saw this production a couple of weeks ago, and he has created an energetic, atmospheric and highly original production that I'm sure will delight audiences of all ages."

Last year, Edward Hall's Rose Rage, the Henry VI plays, won the Barclays Theatrical Management Association (TMA) award for best touring production, and transferred to London's West End. He has previously brought the Royal Shakespeare Company productions of Julius Caesar and Henry V to the Theatre Royal, as well as the Greek tragedy Tantalus, which he co-directed with Sir Peter.
