DIVISION One side Thorns and Second Division Brawns Den both made it to their third cup finals inside one week!

The Den, already Division Two Cup winners, reached the B&A Trophy Final in a specially-arranged Good Friday semi-final last week, beating the Loves 3-1 to set-up their final with Old Shildon on Sunday May 4.

They followed that up with a nail-biting extra-time win over Shildon Athletic in the Invitation Cup semi-finals last Sunday.

Thorns, meanwhile, defeated Old Shildon in the quarter-finals on Tuesday April 15 and the unlucky Loves 5-1 in the semi-final last Sunday to set-up an interesting final at Spennymoor United's Brewery Field on Friday May 2.

That means the remaining four cups will be played between just three teams - Old Shildon, Thorns and Brawns Den - in a merry-go-round of forthcoming finals!

Confused? Maybe this will help...

Division One Cup Final: Old Shildon v Thorns (Sunday, April 27).

Invitation Cup Final: Thorns v Brawns Den (Friday, May 2).

B&A Trophy Final: Brawns Den v Old Shildon (Sunday, May 4).

"We're absolutely thrilled to bits!" said Brawns Den boss Gerard Crooks. "We were underdogs against Loves, our neighbours and rivals, in last week's B&A Trophy semi, and we were delighted to record what was a lucky Invitation Cup semi-final win over Shildon Athletic.

"But the efforts from my players this year has been outstanding - it's been a terrific year up to now and another two cup finals has made it even better!"

Peter Boucher scored in the last minute of extra-time to give Brawns Den their third final of the season. Boucher also scored twice in their B&A Trophy semi win over the Loves last week, with Steven Wallace scoring the other.

Thorns are also having an outstanding season. "If you had told me at the start of the season we would be in three cup finals, I'd certainly have settled for that!" said gaffer Dave McWaters. "We were hoping for a good season after winning promotion to the First Division last year, and this has been fantastic - the lads have done really well. We also look like finishing third in the league, which is very pleasing." Anthony Stewart, Lee Atkinson, Andrew Richardson, Steven Richardson and Mark Russell scored for Thorns in their semi win last Sunday, while James Richardson scored for Loves.

Meanwhile, Lakeside beat the Grand 4-2 in the only Division One game last Sunday - Andy Clay (2), David Welsh and James Alderson scored for Lakeside, with Paul Thompson and Mark Cowley scoring for the Grand.

The Division Two title race continued last week as both top and second top won, again!

Horndale beat Victoria 5-0 and Postchaise beat Cumby Arms 3-0 to set-up a mouth-watering run-in to the Second Division title fight.

The league's end-of-season presentation night will be held at Old Shildon WMC on Friday June 6, when local band 'Buster' will form part of the night's entertainment as well as all the usual awards and presentations.

The league's next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 14.
