Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, visited the region yesterday to provide inspiration to fellow businesswomen.

Ms Roddick was guest speaker at the Women Into the Network's (WIN) annual enterprise lecture, which took place at Durham Town Hall.

She spoke to an audience of about 250 people from businesses and other organisations about her often unconventional experiences setting up her company, and gave advice for others involved in businesses or starting out.

The WIN organisation is based at Durham University's Business School and organises activities to raise awareness, promote business development, share best practice, and encourage and inspire women entrepreneurs in the region. It also puts them in touch with other organisations that can help.

Ms Roddick, who last visited Durham to open The Body Shop store in Silver Street, said yesterday: "Women are really, really superb at networking. They go there for a reason and they network brilliantly. Women are always asking for help and asking questions.
