TORE ANDRE FLO has revealed his shame over a disappointing season on Wearside.

Flo has been one of the chief culprits in Sunderland's season of shame, firing blanks rather than bullets since joining for £8.2m in August.

The Black Cats' shot shy forward line has been the major cause of their relegation, with the team hitting just 21 goals in 36 Premiership games.

Now, as Sunderland prepare to visit Aston Villa today, Flo has confessed their failure to score more often has hit them hard.

He said: "We all feel we could have done a lot better.

"We all have a little bit of guilt for the situation. We haven't played well together.

"With us going down, it has been a frustrating season. In that respect, it has been the most difficult season of my career.

"I've never had to fight against relegation before and that's been hard. Let's hope I never do that again."

Flo has admitted his Sunderland future is uncertain, with the club keen to get the £40,000-a-week striker off their wage bill.

But the Norway star is standing by his vow to stay loyal to the Black Cats and try to help them make an immediate return to the Premiership. "It's a bit unsure what's going to happen, but we have to concentrate on the matches we have left and then wait and see," he said.

"I think I'm in the group of players that might go, but we can only wait for an offer to come in.

"It might be easier and more fun to be playing at the top of the First Division rather than at the bottom of the Premiership.

"I like it here very much, and Trond Andersen plays regularly for Norway, even though he's with Wimbledon. So I think I'd still have a good chance with Norway.

"It's been difficult for all of us but we have to look forward now, try to do our best and be positive about next season.

"We don't want to have all the records people are talking about, so we're going to try to do something about it.

"It would be nice for me to start a game again.

"I've been having some problems with my legs for some weeks but I'm now fully fit."
