PEOPLE in Durham have been invited to delve into the past at the city's library.

Durham Clayport Library in Millennium Place, Claypath, is holding a range of events to celebrate National Local History Month.

Earlier this week, visitors to the library were able to find out about Keys to the Past, a joint venture by Durham and Northumberland county councils, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

In October, a website with information about every archaeological site in the counties will be launched.

For the first time people will have easy access to the councils' sites and monument records, and there will be short histories of every parish.

Next Saturday and on Saturday, May 17, there will be talks about the history of Hatfield College, including a guided tour.

An archaeology session for the over-fives will be held on Wednesday, May 28.

There will also be an opportunity for them to make a family tree on Saturday, May 31.

During the half-term holiday there will be storytime sessions at 11am on Wednesday and Saturday.

A children's treasure hunt using postcards of Durham scenes and activity sheets from Killhope, the North of England Lead Mining Museum, will run throughout this month.
