CHRIS Turner yesterday paved the way for a summer reunion with Graeme Lee.

Former Hartlepool United boss Turner has a busy summer ahead as he rebuilds Sheffield Wednesday following their relegation from Division Two.

Lee was named in the PFA Division Three team of the season and has been a regular in the Pool team which secured promotion to Division Two.

But he is out of contract this summer and, after eight years at Victoria Park, is likely to move on.

Turner knows all about the big defender - Lee has played his best football since Turner arrived at Pool in 1998 - and the Hillsborough chief admitted: "He does interest us.

"I want winners at the club. I want people who have that winning instinct so we can become as big on the football side as our supporters.''

Lee yesterday refused to rule out the possibility of staying at Pool, but it is believed he has already refused to sign two new contracts which have been offered.

"I love it here and if I stay, I will be after a testimonial," he admitted.

"The fans are brilliant and we have a great set of lads and I am delighted here, I have no problems at all. We have won promotion, so I couldn't be happier, but I do want to play at as high a level as I possibly can.

"Nothing has been planned, all I am doing is giving myself the option of playing in a higher division.''

If he does swop Pool for Hillsborough he will be in for a quick return to Victoria Park, as Pool have a pre-season friendly with Wednesday lined up as well as League fixtures next season.

Pool are likely to head for Holland again for a summer pre-season tour, although dates have yet to be confirmed.
