RUSH hour traffic was brought to a standstill yesterday morning after a lorry overturned.

The A66 at Cargo Fleet Lane roundabout, Middlesbrough, was closed for more than five hours after the vehicle turned on its side on the westbound carriageway shortly after 2am.

Fire crews from Marine, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Hartlepool fire stations attended the scene and launched an operation to remove non-hazardous nylon salts, which the lorry was carrying.

The chemical was removed from the lorry and transferred to another vehicle. No other vehicle was involved in the incident, which is being investigated by the police.

The driver of the lorry suffered cuts to his face.
