RICK Stein found plenty of Food Heroes at Leyburn when he visited the festival on Sunday.

In fact, there was a whole marquee full!

Before he and the film crew from Denham Productions stepped inside the food marquee, which was about to burst at the seams with others wanting to sample such choice wares, he took time to enjoy a roast pork sandwich from the Mainsgill Farmshop stand.

Chalky, the dog, was not on hand to help taste the handiwork of Andrew and Maria Henshaw, but he did put in an appearance later, as Mr Stein and the producer, David Pritchard, sat on a wall and surveyed the great throng which was enjoying the occasion as much as they were.

But it was not food that first caught their attention when they arrived in Leyburn. Instead, it was Craske's shooting gallery where both Mr Stein and Mr Pritchard took time off before settling down to work.

And so Leyburn is very likely to appear on a BBC Food Heroes programme either late in August or early in September.

Mr Stein said he was very impressed, not only by the festival but also that in Leyburn it was possible to buy local meat and produce throughout the year.
