A PLAN to build one of the best racecourses in the world near a North-East town will go ahead despite no money being in place, its creator pledged yesterday.

Lord Zetland conceived the idea to build a new racecourse near Redcar two years ago.

Despite failing so far to raise the millions of pounds needed, he vowed never to give up yesterday.

He said: "I'm afraid we are still looking for initial funding but we remain hopeful and determined. This is a long-term project, we are determined and we will succeed."

The racecourse would include a small theme park, casino, hotel and concert venue and would cost up to £150m.

The proposed 537-acre site at Dunsdale Farm, two miles from Redcar, would replace the existing racecourse which has operated since 1872.
