Sunday's main attraction was the final of the Division Three Cup, which pitted champions Pepper Draughting Services against runners-up Hope Inn.

With the Hope coming off the back of a good victory over Spraire RA in the League Cup they were hoping to carry that sort of form into the divisional cup to deprive PDS of a league and cup double in their first season.

However, PDS were really up for the game, and a convincing 5-1 win ensure they finished their first season with a Third Division League and Cup double.

they got off to the perfect start when Anth Pepper played a good ball to brother Carl, who flicked the ball neatly into the path of Michael Carter to volley the ball into the bottom corner.

The advantage was doubled soon after as a neat corner routine found Mark Brooks who headed the ball across goal for the third Pepper brother, manager Graham, to volley his side into a 2-0 lead.

With PDS in full flow the Hope were finding it difficult to get any possession to create chances of their own, and they were left floundering even more when Lee Hammond produced some fine individual skill before bulging the back of the net with a thunderbolt from 20-yards.

With half-time looming large, the Hope's management were desperate to re-group their troops, but PDS wanted to make the trophy safe before the break, and Mark Stephenson virtually assured the silverware would be going home with PDS as he struck a fourth goal just before the break.

The second half looked as though it could turn in to a rout as PDS were denied by some frantic goal-keeping and last-ditch defending on two occasions in the opening couple of minutes. However, having weathered that storm the Hope managed to finally get their foot on the ball and create some chances of their own, and they were rewarded when Trenton Hewitt added to his impressive goal tally, converting a fine cross from the right.

Any hopes of a comeback were soon snuffed out though, as PDS once more stepped up a gear, and it was no surprise when they added a fifth to their tally, as Mark Stephenson broke the off-side trap in the last minute to secure the cup and complete a 5-1 victory.

Away from the cup, this week saw all of the remaining league games completed in Division Three, whilst Newton Aycliffe Sports Club sowed up the runners-up spot in Division One, thanks to two victories over the weekend.

On Friday night, an outstanding performance from Nestfield Club's hat-trick hero Gary Mitchell gave the Sports Club a fright, but they managed to take all three points in the end, as a Paul Stevens hat-trick and a goal from the in-form John Shotton sealed the three points.

The Sports Club then struck four yet again on Sunday, with David Fawcett (2) and Mark Foster (2) getting on the score-sheet in a 4-2 victory over a Hurworth Albion side that had Craig Luke and Wayne King to thank for their goals.

In Division Three, the big game of the week was in Middleton St George, as the Cricket Club, looking for a third place finish took on an Emcor side that needed just a point to seal promotion to Division Two. However, after a drab first half where Mark Brischuck came closest to breaking the deadlock for MSG as he hit a post, the game really sprang into life after half time.

Both sides were desperate for the cushion that a goal would give them, and as tempers became frayed, the Cricket Club found themselves down to ten-men following Jason Whale's dismissal for two yellow cards. However, there was no let-up in their play, and Mike Lyons eventually broke Emcor's hearts as he produced a good finish to seal a 1-0 victory for the Cricket Club in the final final minutes, and send Pizza Perfekt into Division Two in place of Emcor.

Elsewhere in the third division, Cricketers succumbed to a defeat at the hands of Haughton BAT in midweek, with Paul Cooper (2), Karl Lockwood and Paul Coleman scoring the goals that gave them a 4-3 victory. Mike Jones, Dave Kimmons and Scott Mark all notched for Cricketers, but in the end they just couldn't breach the Haughton defence to grab an equaliser.

Sunday then saw Cricketers take on MSG - and for the second time in a week they shipped four goals, as Mike Lyons (2), Mark Evans and John Sunter sealed third place for the Cricket Club in a 4-1 victory. Kevin Howlett struck the Cricketers consolation.
