DOUBLE golfing hole-in-one couple John and Jenny Dixon have made the record books - seven years after their amazing feat.

Officials at their golf club decided their achievement - which was only separated by minutes - was worthy of the Guinness Book of Records.

But the book was being revised and publishers could give the Dixons no guarantee of entry.

Now seven years after their success at the 126-yard hole at Knaresborough Golf Club, North Yorkshire, they have finally received a Guinness certificate marking their "world record".

Mr Dixon, 60, a member at the Knaresborough club for 22 years, said: "We were delighted to get the certificate, even it is was so long in coming."

Before his achievement at Knaresborough, Mr Dixon had sunk one previous hole-in-one at the Blackwell Grange course in Darlington.

For Mrs Dixon, who has been playing for 15 years, the hole-in-one at the third tee at Knaresborough was her first.

And since then, neither has achieved one since.

Mr Dixon last night said he is not surprised the story has resurfaced so long after the event.

At the time, the Harrogate couple appeared on television's Million to One show hosted by Philip Schofield, who correctly predicted the feat would resurface in years to come - just when they were not thinking about it.

"At last it's nice to be recognised as record-holders because it was quite amazing," said Mr Dixon.

The couple are now hoping it will be listed in the next edition of the best-selling book.
