THREE talented brother and sister teams are proving to be the cream of the crop when it comes to music and sport.

They are among 17 youngsters from across the Hambleton area who have been picked for grant aid from the district council.

The youngsters are getting a share of almost £5,000 from Hambleton District Council schemes to give grants to talented young sportspeople and young musicians.

Brothers Alastair and Daniel Reed, from Hutton Rudby, get assistance for the first time.

Footballer Alastair, 15, has been selected to play for the North Yorkshire Schools side. He attends Scarborough FC's Centre of Excellence and plays at area level for Hambleton and Richmondshire.

His 13-year-old brother, Daniel, excels in table tennis and is a member of the English under-15 squad.

Brother and sister Christopher and Catherine Harrison, from Seamer, have been awarded grants for their musical talent.

Catherine, 16, plays the flute and piano as well as being an accomplished singer. She has been selected to play the Flute Concerto by Mozart with the North Yorkshire Schools Symphony Orchestra in Ripon Cathedral next month.

Christopher, 15, plays the clarinet and has appeared with the Northallerton Area Symphony Orchestra and the County orchestra.

Allertonshire School pupils Jessie and Douglas Roberts are both keen on athletics and have a string of titles to their names.

Jessie, 13, has been North Yorkshire Schools cross-country champion for the past two years, won the Yorkshire Club Championship in January and took top place in the Yorkshire Clubs Championships.

Douglas, 12, is also a cross-country champion who won the Hambleton and Richmondshire area trials. They are both members of Richmond and Zetland Harriers and live in Northallerton.
