A NORTH-EAST radio presenter won an award at a national competition - and then lost it.

After a night of festivities, Saffron Oddy woke up in the morning to realise she had left her award in a Newcastle taxi.

Ms Oddy, Galaxy 105-106's mid-morning presenter, won Presentation Newcomer of the Year at the NTL Commercial Radio Awards at The Old Brewery, in London.

The realisation dawned when Ms Oddy woke up on Friday morning to put the award on her mantelpiece, and realised she didn't have it.

The 24-year-old said: "I can't believe it. I'm so gutted. I wanted to take the award to show my mum, and when I couldn't find it anywhere I got a real sickly feeling in my stomach.

"If anyone has seen the award, or knows where it is, please, please would they send it back to me as I want to show my mum."

Galaxy has already enjoyed success this year after breakfast presenters Steve Furnell and Karen Wight won a silver medal for the Best Music/Personality Show category in the New York Festivals Awards, in New York, US.

Galaxy marketing manager Andy Saxton said: "A gold medal was not awarded this year, so technically you could say that the Steve and Karen Breakfast Show is the best in the world."
