Middlesbrough AC: The club's young athletes found their sternest test of the season when they faced the top two teams, Gateshead and Liverpool, in their third round NYAL premier league match at Clairville Stadium.

The U17 teams provided the best results with Dean Daniel showing impressive form with personal bests of 10.9 and 21.6 for both sprints. Ben Wilson set a personal best winning his 100m. Tyrone Crowe moved up from 400m to win his 800m race in 2:01.3 while Scott Childs won the 400m in 52.7. On the field there were wins for Jordan Jefferson and Gavin Hills.

Debbie Forster won the 300m hurdles in 46.9 and the 80m hurdles in 13.1 with Emma Payne winning the long jump and hurdle competition with 4.78 and 12.3 before both girls ran in the winning sprint relay.

At U13 level Lewis McElwee won the 100m, Luke Stockton won a close 800m and Mark Foster and Adam Mitchell recorded fine victories over 1300m. Andy Lagan won his one lap race and Pete Hill won the shot with an excellent 12.41m. The U13s rounded off their day by winning the 4x100m relay in 48.5.

The final match of the season is at York in three weeks time.

Middlesbrough AC's junior men's team travelled to Scotland for their second round National League fixture with a much depleted team because of a fixture clash with the schools inter-counties and North of England championships, but still turned in a creditable performance thanks to magnificent efforts by the few who did manage to travel.

The squad are now in fifth place just ahead of Sale Harriers will hope to consolidate their position in the remaining matches.

Peter Vickers improved his chances of competing in the National Grand Prix final for a record equalling third time with outstanding results in both sprints opting for the high jump for his third event and Dale Jordan warmed up for his forthcoming decathlon by contesting five events.

Cleveland

Cleveland's intermediate athletes were in fine form in the four way inter-counties match at Jarrow.

Dean Daniels ran another under 22 second 200m with James Minter, a native of Jarrow, winning the 800m in 1557 with Scott Henderson emulating his father's win over 100m hurdles.

Gavin Hill won both the shot and discus competitions with Lee Costello winning the javelin.

Samantha Hart won the 800m in 2153 and Debbie Forster followed in the footsteps of Allison Curbichley and Helen Walker by winning over 200m hurdles.

Hannah Conray won the javelin again throwing over 30m.

Lewis McElwee was the star of the junior age group again clocking up a 100m/200m sprint double whilst Faye Winspear was close in the girls events winning over 200m and just missing out in the short sprint.
