GUM boot dancing and African drumming were introduced to children at a primary school.
Two African artists from the Isiziba arts group visited Bullion Lane Primary School in Chester-le-Street to introduce children to "gum boot dancing".
The art form was originally devised by African miners, who would do the dance in their wellingtons while they worked down the mines.
Pupils donned yellow helmets and boots and were shown how to do the dance movements such as tapping their knees.
Earlier in the day, the children had each been given an African drum, so they could take part in a drumming workshop.
