YORK House Construction has been awarded its biggest contract to date.

The company, based in Richmond, North Yorkshire, was established in 2000, and has been awarded a £4m contract by Evans, of Leeds, to create a promenade along the River Humber in Hull.

The scheme includes a four-storey 1,700sq metre office building, which will be let to a government agency, a five-storey residential building containing 32 luxury one and two-bedroomed apartments, and the refurbishment of a listed building with planning permission for use as a restaurant.

The offices front the High Street in the Old Town quarter of Hull and the apartments front the river near to "The Deep" tourist attraction.

York House Construction director Andy Bruce, who started the building firm following a successful reign as managing director of PS Turner, based in Keighley, said: "The riverside development phenomenon has meant that for a company of our size, there is valuable construction work to be won in Yorkshire.

"We have been delighted to play a part in the regeneration and transformation of several major urban waterside sites in addition to this important scheme in Hull."

He added: "The buoyancy in the Yorkshire development market place has played a key role in the success we have enjoyed over the past two years and Evans imaginative scheme on the Hull riverside is typical of the kind of contract which has contributed to our tremendous expansion."

"We anticipate further growth over the coming year both for the company and for our workforce."

York House Construction, which employs more than 60 full-time staff, has started work on site, and expects to complete the development by April of next year.

The contract follows the completion of a £2m hospitality and banqueting suite at Odsal Stadium, home of the Bradford Bulls, rugby league's premier club.

The complex provides 10,000sq ft of luxury entertainment space including a 300-seat restaurant and 48 private hospitality suites.
