Zamyatina's shock 66-1 success under apprentice David Allan in the Middleham Suite Classified Stakes at Catterick yesterday brought back good and sad memories for Pat Clinton, who combines training with farming at his Doveridge, near Uttoxeter, stable.

Clinton, a former assistant to Andy Streeter, has held a licence since 2000 and has a team of six. He was sending out his first winner for 691 days and said: "We have had two winners from four runners at Catterick - it has been a lucky course for me.

"It is almost 18 years ago to the day that Godlord, who was trained for me by Peter Bevan, won here for the second time, but sadly I lost him the other day because of colic at the age of 23 - it is strange how we should have another winner here so soon after."

Clinton trains Zamyatina for Geoff Worrall, who said: "I have a fiver on at 80-1 with the bookies and a fiver on the Tote which paid 145-1."!

Paul Hanagan was cautioned for careless riding on the unplaced Secret Spoof, while apprentice Lee Enstone was suspended for one day (July 18) for using his whip with excessive frequency on third-placed Chairman Bobby.

The evergreen and versatile Jamaican Flight yet again belied his years and received a great reception from the crowd after gaining the 20th success of his career in game style under Jimmy Quinn in the 'Tumeric' Handicap.

Now a ten-year-old, Jamaican Flight was successful as a juvenile when trained by John Hills, but the rest of his wins, eleven on the Flat and eight over jumps, have been for Sue Lamyman, who trains him for her husband, Peter.

She said: "He is fantastic, but the trouble is where we will find another one like him, I don't think we ever will. But we have bought two from John (Hills) this week, so you never know."

Mrs Lamyman is now considering whether to run Jamaican Flight at Beverley next Tuesday.

Roger Fisher, whose H Harrison holds the two-year-old five-furlong course record (57.6secs), gained another juvenile success when Barras, ridden Shashi Righton won the Malton Suite Selling Stakes after which the Ulverston trainer went to 4,200gns to retain the gelding at the auction.

George Duffield is riding at the top of his form and he teamed up with Sir Mark Prescott to take the Paddock Suite Handicap with Mandarin Spirit.

Tyrone Williams was cautioned for careless riding on Blunham, unplaced in the Scotch Corner Handicap won by the David Evans-trained Intellibet One, ridden by Graham Gibbons.

l Richard Hughes will visit Portman Square today as he appeals against the two-day ban picked up at Lingfield this month.

The rider was found guilty by the local stewards of careless riding after winning on Chinsola in the Whips and Tees Maiden Auction Stakes.
