A GOVERNMENT task force is asking the region's business advisors to help reduce the red tape affecting small firms.
Teresa Graham, deputy chairman of the Better Regulation Task Force, told a meeting of leading chartered accountants that they could play a key role in influencing legislation before it is introduced.
Advisors who feel new legislation could have a negative impact on their small business clients were asked to contact the Cabinet Office's Regulatory Impact Unit.
Keith Proudfoot, Northern regional manager of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, said: "We were able to talk directly to two senior people, who are extremely enthusiastic about the issue of freeing business from the shackles of unnecessary red tape.
