WORKS of art and catwalk collections created by up-and-coming designers are being exhibited in Darlington.

Evolve is a ten-day exhibition of contemporary works produced by a 30-strong team of art and design students from Darlington College of Technology.

The exhibition, which opened last week at Darlington Arts Centre, features drawing, painting, fashion, photography, graphic design and digital imagery from students wanting to pursue a career in creative arts.

The students have taken over the Myles Meehan gallery, the glass corridor and the foyer of the arts centre for the exhibition which runs until Saturday.

The highlight is a fashion show which takes place this Thursday.

A two-hour fashion show will take place during the day, at 2pm and again at 7.30pm, featuring collections created by second year students on the college's fashion design course.

The centrepiece of the fashion show is a collection inspired by the heritage of Masham in North Yorkshire, and a conservation project which collects wool from rare breeds of sheep in Scotland which is then coloured with natural dyes.

Course leader Jane Brown said: "The work they have produced is excellent.

"They have taken a very traditional fabric and used it in a very experimental and unusual way."

Tickets for the fashion show are £3, and are available from Darlington Arts Centre or telephone (01325) 486555.
