PUB regulars backed their landlord's efforts for a cancer charity by raising £1,555 in a few hours.
Kevin and Shirley Hill ran the event at the Lion and Unicorn, in Willington, for Cancer Research UK.
Hair and Beauty students Alex Carr and Luke Jones, both friends of the couple's daughter, Natalie, shaved customers' heads and waxed legs and chests. There was entertainment from singer Carrie James and Hartlepool Football Club provided a signed football for auction.
Mrs Hill said: "I think cancer research is a charity which is close to many people's hearts because it strikes a lot of families.
"My father, Billy Ryan, died from cancer six years ago, so it is especially dear to my heart."
Lindsay Kay, community fundraiser for Cancer Research UK, said: "We are very grateful for the terrific support we have had from the Lion and Unicorn.
"The money will be put to good use in the North-East where we fund research at the Centre for Life and Newcastle University."
