AN alien invasion is threatening the flower-rich roadsides in one of the region's areas of outstanding beauty.
Volunteers are planning a day of action to fight the Himalayan Balsam.
The plant is growing in the Ampleforth area of the Howardian Hills.
"Meadow sweet, black knapweed and meadow vetchling are all now threatened," said Susan Bragg, assistant officer for the Howardian Hills area.
"The best way to put a stop to this is to pull up the Himalayan Balsam by hand and that is going to take a lot of hands."
Anyone prepared to volunteer is asked to call Mrs Bragg on (01609) 780780.
