PUPILS from two schools will be joining forces to make music.
Children from Lord Lawson of Beamish Arts College, Birtley, near Gateshead, and Kenton School, Newcastle, will form an orchestra that will play a piece composed for them at Tyneside's Millennium Bridge tomorrow.
The work has been designed to last as long as it takes for the bridge to open.
The performance will be followed by the joining together of two halves of a tapestry, made by pupils at each school, in the centre of the bridge.
This week, the youngsters have been taking part in workshops on different aspects of culture and the arts, including clog dancing, kite-making and sand sculpture.
A selection of poems written by the pupils will also be displayed on the Tyne and Wear Metro over the next few months.
Lord Lawson's headteacher, David Grigg, said: "We are delighted to be able to extend our work in partnership with Kenton School.
"This partnership will involve more than 280 members of staff and 3,500 students in the two schools, as well as many more in our partner primary schools."
Kenton School headteacher David Pearmain said: "The North-East has a very proud heritage and culture, and it is something we are keen to celebrate here at Kenton School."
