A BURGLAR who targeted an house less than two weeks before Christmas was jailed for 18 months yesterday.
Mark Liddy, 20, took £3,000 worth of jewellery and other property from a house in Hillcrest, East Herrington, Sunderland, on December 14.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how the householders went out for three hours in the early evening, and returned to find their home ransacked.
Liddy was tracked down after his DNA was found at the scene.
Judge Guy Whitburn told him: "This is extremely serious and very upsetting to the householders to find their place ravaged by you."
Liddy, of Tilbury Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to burglary.
