A TEESSIDE school has become the first school in its town to win a basic skills agency quality mark.

Linthorpe Infants School, in Middlesbrough, was also awarded an Artsmark.

Headteacher Ronnie Dee said: "We are pleased and very proud. We have done a lot of work and it is wonderful."

CALMING TRAFFIC: Nearly £500,000 is to be spent by Middlesbrough Council to cut traffic speeds across the town. Road humps, speed cushions and raised pedestrian crossing facilities are to be introduced in the Park End and Berwick Hills districts and the Gresham ward. The work will start on Monday and take ten weeks.

FUN DAY: There will be a bungee run, quad bikes, pony rides, viking re-enactors, a clown and stalls at a gala day in Ayresome Gardens, off Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, on Sunday.

BABES REMEMBERED: A memorial service for babies who have died, will be held at 10am at The Baby Memorial, Acklam Cemetery, Acklam Road, Middlesbrough, on Monday. ROCK ON: Visitors to the Dorman Museum, Middlesbrough, on July 29 can enjoy a free introduction to the museum's extensive collection of fossils, rocks and minerals. DOCTORS' ORDERS: Middlesbrough Primary Care Trust plans to launch an autumn campaign to cut down on the amount of medicines wasted each year. Each practice now has a pharmacist working with them to offer medication reviews to patients. Practices are conducting a patient questionnaire to find out the most common problems for patients.
