STUDENTS are learning that crime does not pay during a two-day safety challenge set by the Hambleton Community Safety Partnership.
Youngsters at Bedale High School are completing tasks, which focus on issues such as vandalism, anti-social behaviour and drug abuse.
Partnership members, from the police and fire services have given the year seven pupils a series of crime-related questions for them to examine. The 190 students have been split into groups and are working on presentations and role-plays based on different areas of crime.
"Things are going very well and the first day has been a great hit among the youngsters," said school spokesman Mark Sellars.
"They are learning a lot of vital information - most importantly how their actions can affect other people."
Other subjects being covered are fear of crime in relation to the elderly, theft, arson and hoax calls, alcohol and behaviour on the journey to school.
