YOUNG taekwondo expert Jamie Walker, 10, was in tremendous form at the recent Welsh national championships.

Jamie, a junior black belt from Darlington who trains four times a week at the town's Kim Chung Do Dojang in Kendrew Street, won six gold and one silver medal against strong competition.

He was the most successful competitor of the championships, but his instructor, Ron Brennan, was delighted with the whole team's performance.

He said: "In total we won 134 medals over the weekend from 26 students and this reflects their last two months of intense training."

Other students from the Darlington club who performed well in Wales were Katey Wallace, 23, (seven gold, one bronze), Emma Roscher, 11, (four gold, two silver), Nikki Beresford, 11, (four gold, two silver, one bronze) and Robbie Bates, 11, (four gold).

Special awards were won by Nikki Beresford for best competitor of the day and Hannah Hatfield, 13, for best martial artist of the day.
