VISITORS to a colourful garden at Thornton Watlass tomorrow will again be helping to raise money for charity.

Betty Backhouse's bungalow is surrounded by fuchsias, many cuttings from which have been sold during the last six years at annual cheese and wine parties to help deserving causes.

The event at Parklands tomorrow at 6.30 also includes a cake stall and will be raising money for the Turner's Syndrome support group.

Causes helped by previous such events at Parklands have included Thornton Watlass church and school, Diabetes UK, Macmillan Cancer Relief and James Cook University Hospital at Middlesbrough.

A total of almost £3,000 has been raised so far.

* Six gardens will be open at Crakehall on Sunday, 2-6pm, as well as an exhibition of flowers in St Gregory's Church. Teas will be served in the garden of Crakehall House, the home of Barry Reed, admission to garden £2.50, accompanied children free.
