A TV career is only a taxi ride away when BBC Talent visits the region on Tuesday, in search of the David Dickinsons and Simon Schamas of the future.

The search is on for people who, apart from being knowledgeable and passionate about their subject, are good at talking about it and who could educate and entertain a television audience.

One person is guaranteed the chance to make a television documentary for BBC Four.

A fleet of adapted Talent Taxis, which serve as mobile audition booths, will be parked in Parliament Street, in York city centre, from 9.30am to 6pm.

Potential TV experts will be able to do a short informal audition.

Ten finalists will make pilot tapes and be considered for other presenting opportunities and commissions.

The auditions are open to anyone over 18, who is not a full-time television presenter and who has a skill or knowledge about a subject that could translate into fascinating television.

Executive producer Angela Wallis said: "We are hoping to find people who are experts in their field and who have always wanted to make compelling programmes.

"We are interested in hearing from anthropologists to novelists, individuals with an expertise and an opinion. Whatever your passion is, no matter how unusual it sounds, we would love to hear about it."
