The Readers' Durham County League: Evenwood completed a weekend double and recaptured the leadership. Willington also won twice but Tudhoe suffered two defeats which cost them pole position.

After scoring almost 250 runs at Esh Winning on Saturday, they faced a lesser target at home to Langley Park and when Billy Teasdale, Deighton Butler and Neil Teasdale all passed 40, victory was achieved with five wickets remaining.

Tyrone Beaton made the game's top score though contributing 71 to a first-wicket partnership with David Leslie (43) which set the scene for Langley Park's 171-9.

It was doom and gloom for Tudhoe. After losing to Ushaw Moor they were second best to Willington who celebrated a 99-runs victory. Karl Brown set the scene when he hit a couple of sixes and 21 boundaries in an unbeaten 151. When Gary Cummins added 47, Tudhoe faced a huge target of 252.

Willington, winners at Crook Town on Saturday, are third with Kimblesworth fourth. They won their only game at home to Etherley whose 227-7 included half centuries by Colin Barker and Yassas Tillakaratne.

Ushaw Moor were another to take maximum points from their two fixtures following up Saturday's victory over Tudhoe, defeating Mainsforth by six wickets. Sanjay Raul and Darren Punshon shared seven wickets restricting Mainsforth to 122-9 and the task was completed by John Bate with 41 and Punshon (39).

Brandon went down by 86 runs to Esh Winning. John Carmedy (63) and Graham Hurst (69) propelled Esh past 200 and although Robert Morgan opened with 53, Brandon never threatened.

Steve Brodrick claimed five wickets at economical cost reducing Shildon to 119-9 and Sedgefield completed a comprehensive 10-wickets success with unbeaten half centuries from Paul Elwell and Johnson.

Nearly 500 runs were scored at Esh Winning on Saturday when Evenwood had seven wickets and five overs in hand overtaking the home side's formidable total of 244-6.

Billy Teasdale set the scene with 14 fours in 81, Deighton Butler added 68 not out and Darren Wallis carried his bat for 35 in Evenwood's reply of 248-3.

Esh had their batting heroes as the runs flowed from David Lawlor, whose 82 included one six and 11 boundaries. John Carmedy contributed 58 and both Karl Turner and Atta-ur-Rehman passed 30.

Willington had no trouble seeing off the challenge from Crook Town who managed only 124 in all but two balls of the 45 overs. Gary Cummins and Gareth Wyatt kept the home batsmen at bay in contrast to Willington, who won in 32.2 overs losing one wicket.

Karl Brown carried his bat for 65 with eight fours and Cummins completed a good all-round performance making 47 with six boundaries.

Sanjay Raul was the match-winning for Ushaw Moor at Tudhoe. He took six for 31, restricting the home side to 146-9 of which Simon Davies (34) and David Ronson with 48 scored the majority of the runs.

Raul then struck 66 but even so Ushaw Moor had to work hard for a two wickets victory as the four-man home attack posed problems throughout the innings.

Shildon were all out for 72 at Mainsforth for whom Robert Chismon and David Thompson shared seven wickets. Gary Purcell steered his side home carrying his bat for 52 out of a total of 73 without loss.

Brandon were another side to find the going tough when at the wicket. They made just 110 at Sedgefield for whom Stephen Brodrick returned the outstanding figures of 5-15 in 12 overs and Stephen Flockett had 3-28.

Peter Ellwell then commanded Sedgefield's reply and his 64 not out, which included eight fours, secured the points with eight wickets and plenty of overs to spare.

Yassas Tillakaratne turned the game in Etherley's favour when he was introduced as second-change against Langley Park. He returned the magnificent figures of 8- 30 from 11.5 overs and from a promising position, Langley collapsed to 202 all out with an over remaining.
